Sambhara

This time I tried this next door Gujarati recipe.  Sambhara is made almost in all Gujarati kitchen with different combinations either only with ripe papaya or cabbage and chillies or ripe papaya and cabbage and ripe mangoes. I added on other veggies to it. Let me share it with you all...

Its simple and quick to cook which makes any boring recipe tasty.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: for 4 people

What goes in it:

Unripe green papaya, vertically sliced- ½ cup
Cabbage, sliced- ½ cup
Capsicum, vertically sliced- ½ cup
Green chilli, vertical halves- ½ cup
Unripe green mango, vertically sliced- ½ cup
Carrot,vertically sliced-1/2 cup
Mustard-cumin seeds- ½ tbl spn
Asafoetida (Hing)- ½ tbl spn
Curry leaves- 5-6 leaves or 1 sprig
Turmeric powder- ¼ tbl spn
Oil- 2 tbl spn
Salt to taste

How did I make it:

Take a kadai, put oil in it and let it heat. As it heats up, put mustard-cumin seeds and let them pop properly. Then add hing to it. Sauté properly for ½ a minute. Then add all the vegetables to it. Add salt and turmeric powder to it. Mix them all properly.

Let it cook for about 5-7 minutes covering with a lid and put little water on the lid. This will put pressure on hte kadai while cooking. Cook till the vegetables are partially boiled.

Take it off the gas. And spicy sour and yummy sambhara is ready.

You can eat with chapatti or dal rice or anything what you like to eat with. I had it with khichdi. This made my boring khichdi spicy and yummy... J
